10AM, Sunday 23rd April leaving from Doncaster College and University Centre High Melton campus is the annual Danum Trophy Road Race.
First run in 1969 on a circuit based in Wentworth just outside of Doncaster, Doncaster Wheelers Cycling Club took over the Danum Trophy Road Race in 2013, and with a new and challenging circuit it has quickly become one of the most prestigious events in the region.
The new route winds through Doncaster’s scenic countryside, around the villages of High Melton, Cadeby, and Sprotbrough. The race is run over a challenging six mile circuit which is to be covered ten times for a total of 60 tough miles!
A top-class field of riders have entered this year’s race, including Sprotborough’s John Tanner, Rossington’s Graham Briggs, and Doncaster’s recent UCI Junior Mens Cyclo-Cross World Championship 3rd place winner Ben Turner. Joined by many more top riders and teams this should be a fantastic early season opener!
The Danum Trophy Road Race is sponsored by the 1970 race winner, Chris Parkinson via his company, Parkinson Medical and Dental Design. Event support also comes from Doncaster College and University Centre who are kindly providing the use of their High Melton Campus as race HQ.
Starting at 10AM from High Melton, the race is expected to finish around 12:45pm. For further information please contact Martin on 01302 769531.
